Coco Chanel and Capsule Wardrobing

Coco Chanel and Capsule Wardrobing

The Mama of the Movement

We are all grateful for Madame Chanel for “inventing” our wardrobe staple Little Black Dress. Whether interpreted as a summer sundress or an elegant evening gown, the LBD will forever be a fashion classic.

(Storyline Collection has one, too. Our forgiving Tunic Dress has a flattering v-neck, timeless ruffled sleeves…..and pockets!)

And when she wasn’t flirting with financiers from Paris to Cannes, she was creating a wardrobe that freed women from corsets and boned rib cages. Her separates — a pull-on skirt, an easy jacket, knitwear with flair and function — outlined the first Capsule Wardrobe. The fact that her Chanel brand separates are updated annually, and sell for premium prices at the top of couture showcases, speak to their timelessness and allure.

Our Storyline Capsule Collections are slightly more affordable, but just as fun to mix and match. We always suggest building a Basic Black 4-piece: Jacket, Top, Pant and Skirt. From there, add a pop of color, perhaps Key Largo Blue, maybe as a “twin set”. Add a print, or two, and you are set with as many possibilities as there are events in your day. One of the best parts? I ALWAYS keep a top and a Wrap Cardigan in my tote….in case I need an extra layer, or a last-minute invitation to dinner appears!

Now, where are my pearls….

Julie

I wore my Storyline LBD to our nephew’s wedding in July. I had cooked the rehearsal supper, and turned out to be more of a job than I anticipated. So, was very happy to slip on my Storyline LBD the next day for the wedding. My son didn’t tell be directly but he told his girlfriend “Mom looks nice!” That was a win for me!!
